Option Older Datacards - PCMCIA and Cardbus

The datacards listed on this page are from Option's original range of datacards. They can all be used with PPP to make an Internet connection and apart from some basic configuration can be used like an oridinary modem.

The comgt command line tool can be used to interrogate and control these devices.

  • Vodafone 3G
  • GlobeTrotter 3G and GlobeTrotter 3G Quad
  • GlobeTrotter Fusion and GlobeTrotter Fusion Quad

Vodafone 3G

V3GV3G

This was the worlds first commercial 3G datacrd. I made a HowTo for it.

Note: All modern distribution now include the option.ko driver so you do not need to use usb_serial anymore.

You can use UMTSmon to control and configure this device.

Serial Numbers start with CL

GlobeTrotter 3G and GlobeTrotter 3G QUAD

GT3GGT3G

Serial Number starts with RL (Dual Band device) or QL (Quad band device)

The Vodafone 3G HowTo will work for this device.

Note: All modern distribution now include the option.ko driver so you do not need to use usb_serial as mentioned in the How-To anymore.

You can use UMTSmon to control and configure this device.

GlobeTrotter Fusion and GlobeTrotter Fusion Quad

GTFUSIONGTFUSION

Serial Number starts with RC (Dual Band device) or RQ (Quad band device)

The Vodafone 3G HowTo will work for this device.

The GlobeTrotter Fusion HowTo is also useful.

Note: All modern distribution now include the option.ko driver so you do not need to use usb_serial as mentioned in the How-To anymore.

You can use UMTSmon to control and configure this device.

Since kernel 2.6.12 there is built in support for Fusion devices. Apparently you just need to set the kernel configuration to:

 CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_OPTION=m

[END]
